Summary
This article describes a resource leak which uses up extra GDI objects. This information applies to:
Details
In builds prior to revision 1.1.317, a resource leak causes the button control to use up extra GDI objects.
If an application with a BetterButton is left for a long period of time or if the control is re-painted multiple
times, the resource leak can ultimately cause the application to fail due to lack of memory.
Some noticeable symptoms include improperly drawn buttons, extraneous graphics drawn throughout your application,
program crashes, large or bold fonts, or buttons that are no longer visible.
Workaround
The only workaround to this problem is to download the latest patch from Variad Corporation's Web site. If you
would like to download this file now, please enter your email address and serial number below:
How to Install
- Close all development environments (such as Microsoft® Visual Basic®) which contain a reference to the BetterButton control
- Enter your serial number and email address below to download the patch
- Save the file to the Windows\System or WinNT\System32 folder, where the existing .OCX is installed
- If you are prompted to overwrite this file, select yes.
- The OCX is binary-compatible. No need to re-register the file, but if you find that it does not work, you may try to register using the following command (substitute the <system[32]path> with the path of your Windows\System or WinNT\System32 folder on your computer):
regsvr32 <System[32]path>\varBetterButton.ocx
- You do not need to re-compile your software. Simply install the new file with your product in the same way you would distribute the older version.
